The relationship between generations can be immensely powerful, in either a good or a bad way, but when you add the father-son dynamic it can be even more powerful as a force.
Family businesses are built on relationships and much has been written about the father-son dynamic in particular.
When it come to the next generational leader of a family firm it becomes clear that any leader needs to be comfortable in their own skin, to lead from the front, but the image/relationship they have with their own father can go a long way to defining who they are, how they react in situations and the leader that they turn out to be.
Really interesting piece on the dynamic and food for thought for many I suspect too!
Many men get stuck in life by expressing that they want to be just like their father or the opposite, I don’t want to be anything like my Dad. Either statement does not free you up to become the leader you want to be. Positive or negative, when you focus on being just like him or not being like him you develop a mental image of him and you become that mental image.
